Christmas is a time for joy and festivity, time for sharing precious moments with friends and family. Whether you start your celebrations in November, as soon as Halloween is over, or you wait until December rolls around, there are many different things that you can do in and around Purley to get into the festive spirit.
Become a festive florist
Head to Bourne Hall for the Ewell Horticultural Association’s talk by Sheila Stracy on Flowers for Christmas. You’ll be able to watch a floral art demonstration by Sheila, who’ll show you all the different ways you can use flowers to decorate your home for the festive season.
Find out more about the event on the 13th November here.
Book your Christmas dinner
If you don’t want to cook on Christmas Day this year, or if you’re looking for somewhere to celebrate with friends or colleagues before the big day, why not consider The Pear Tree pub?
This friendly venue, situated in the heart of Purley, is offering a fantastic Christmas menu to tickle your tastebuds during the festive season. With exciting menu items, such as a pie with a Christmas twist or a festive themed buffet, and a bottle of Prosecco to really help you get the party started, this is a wonderful destination for a Christmas celebration!

Head to the Christmas market for some festive gifts
The Purley Barn is hosting their annual Christmas market again this year on the 25th November. Sip on some mulled wine as you browse the many different stalls, which will be selling a variety of jewellery, cards, gifts and crafted items.
Also, make sure to have a listen to the Pangbourne Silver Band and try your hand at the Grand Raffle to see what you’ll win! For little ones, head to Santa’s Grotto and make sure to have a visit with Father Christmas.

Watch the Christmas lights turn on
On the 1st December, the start of the Christmas period is fully celebrated with the Christmas lights illumination in Purley. Head to the Purley Piazza and watch as the centre of the town is lit up by twinkling lights.
If you’re feeling festive and want to stay out longer, why not join the South East Cancer Help Centre charity around the Tree of Light to sing some traditional Christmas carols?
Find out more about the event through their Facebook Event page.
Visit Santa in his grotto
Back by popular demand, Santa’s grotto will be at Lord Roberts on the Green in the Webb Estate again this year. This wonderful community hub, deli and café will be opening its doors to children wanting to meet the famous Father Christmas and his elves from the 8th to the 24th December.
Parents will be able to take as many photos as they wish and 10 per cent of the ticket price will be donated to the PTA of the school your child attends. All children will also receive a gift from Santa.
You will need to book your time to visit, so head to their website and organise your trip to Lord Roberts on the Green.
So, what are you waiting for? Get out there, get festive, and enjoy the Christmas cheer this year in Purley!
