We’re incredibly proud of the area we work in and feel fortunate to be able to sell homes in one of the most beautiful regions in the country. Now, as the festive season is upon us, these rural and urban areas are looking more enchanting than ever.
Whether you already live in the area, or are thinking of moving to Surrey, now is one of the best times of the year to be here. Especially magical are the abundance of fantastic Christmas markets, ideal for all the family to visit. Here’s a round-up of some of our favourites.
Guildford
One of the main Christmas markets in the area is in Guildford, which runs from November right through until Christmas Eve. Located in the middle of the main shopping street you’ll find a range of stalls, all lit up by the town’s Christmas lights twinkling above. While Guildford does get very busy with Christmas shoppers there is ample parking available and enough shops to tick off everything on your shopping list in one go, so it’s well worth a visit.
Caterham
Locals wait each year for the popular Soper Hall Christmas Market so it is well worth a visit if you are in the local area. It’s a real community gathering and ideal for all the family. It’s not huge but you’ll still see a number of stalls and food and drink outlets, and Santa pops by for a visit too.
Farnham
For something a bit different, make the journey to Alice Holt Forest in Farnham and visit their Christmas Winter Wonderland. This is more of an experience than just a Christmas market, making it ideal if you are taking children along with you. You’ll start by following the elves on a journey through the forest, lit up as a winter wonderland, before you reach your destination – Santa’s workshop. Before you meet the man himself, children have the chance to get stuck into arts and crafts, the results of which get to come home too. A wonderful way to spend a Christmas afternoon.
Banstead
Organised by the Banstead Business Guild, the Banstead Christmas community event takes place each year and is a lovely family fun event. You’ll find it on the High street starting from the main church with lots there for visitors of all ages to enjoy.
Carshalton
In Carshalton Beeches you’ll find Yulefest, where a parade of stalls closes the main Banstead Road each year. A must visit event for locals.
Further afield
One of the great things about basing yourself in Surrey is that you are very centrally located to head further afield. At Christmas, this gives you a wealth of destinations to choose from for some festive fun. In particular, we’d recommend going to the Winchester Cathedral Christmas Market – just an hour or so drive away, or why not take the train into London and go to the Hyde Park Winter Wonderland?
Wherever you venture to this Christmas, we hope that you have a wonderful time. And, if you like the sound of Surrey but don’t yet live here, take a look at the latest homes we have for sale. That way, this could be your local area next December.
