Caterham is a vibrant town in the Tandridge district of Surrey, situated on the North Downs, 6 miles south of Croydon and consisting of two centres, Caterham Valley and Caterham on the Hill. Caterham Valley is the main town centre with it’s main line railway station can and Caterham on the Hill, with its more Village-like atmosphere, is located above the valley to the west. The town lies close to the A22, offering access to the M25 junction 6 in just five minutes by car.
Caterham has an interesting history and was home for a long time to the famous Caterham Cars. The Jeweller, Charles Asprey, was a leading local figure and donated the Asprey Fountain to the town in 1890. The actor Bill Nighy was born in Caterham and Angus Deayton captained the famous Caterham School’s U16 rugby team.
Caterham and Caterham on the Hill have a large selection of properties to choose from, ranging from centrally located apartments, to terraced, semi-detached and detached family houses, thereby offering options for all tastes and budgets. Caterham valley is home to the renowned Caterham school, located in Harestone valley road with a good selection of mainly quality detached homes nearby in Dome Hill and Harestone Hill and other much sought after roads. Just up the road in Caterham on the Hill, you will find other large detached properties in Queens Park road, a sought after location fronting Queens park.
Caterham and Caterham on the Hill offer a very good choice of schools in the area including Audley Primary School, St Johns C of E Primary School, Hillcroft Primary School and de Stafford Secondary School. In the private sector Oakhyrst Grange is a small, co-educational independent preparatory school and there is also the famous Caterham School, an independent co-educational HMC day and boarding school for pupils aged 3 to 18 years of age.
Caterham Valley offers a large variety of shops including Waitrose supermarket and Morrison’s supermarket which is situated in the Church Walk shopping centre with a number of other shops including a number that our independently owned. Caterham on the Hill also has a good variety on offer including a Tesco supermarket. There is a good selection of restaurants and pubs in the local area including The Harrow pub situated in Stanstead road, offering real ales, home cooked food and open fires, The Harrow welcomes dog walkers, families and cyclists. The Old Surrey Hounds is a family friendly pub situated in the centre of Caterham offering a good range of wine, beers, spirits, ciders etc. and if you’re a sports fan, this is the place to visit. The Ladybird offers a warm welcome to all in this family friendly pub serving delicious food, fine cask ale and wine.
Queens Park in Caterham on the Hill is a flagship park and open space and is home to a large selection of sports associations, facilities, pavilions and the largest children’s play area in the district. The Arc in Caterham on the Hill offers activities, classes, events and more and for a trip to theatre go no further than the Miller Centre Theatre company situated in Caterham Town.
Golfers need look no further than Surrey National Golf Club, situated very close by in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
Caterham is located a short drive to the M25 junction 6 at Godstone affording excellent commuting to both Gatwick and Heathrow Airports. Caterham main line railway station offers good links to the London main line stations taking approximately 50 minutes.
